Flashlight worthy books!

This page is an open space where students can recommend books and authors who have made an impact on their reading.  A flashlight worthy book is a book that you just CANNOT put down!  Any book that would send you sneaking a flashlight under your covers in the middle of the night just so you could finish belongs on this list!

Sarah Plain and Tall

This book is about two kids and their father.  They lost their mother when they were very young.  Anna is the little girl and Caleb is the little boy.  Their father is trying to find a wife.  He writes about himself in a paper and the girls write back.  A woman named Sarah writes back.  She lives by the sea with her brother but her brother is getting married so she can’t live in that house anymore.  Sarah decides to come and see their house.  They really like her but Sarah always looks a little gloomy because she likes the sea and they live where the sea isn’t. We would recommend this book to someone who wants a chapter book that’s not too hard.  We also think that someone who likes sad and also happy parts would like this book.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

This book is about a boy named Charlie. He is very unlucky mostly because his family is very poor and his dad just lost his job at the toothpaste factory. On his birthday, Charlie gets one chocolate bar. Mr. Willey Wonka is the owner of a chocolate factory and he has a contest with golden tickets inside of chocolate bars. The first bar that Charlie has doesn’t have a ticket but his ninety-six year old grandfather (an underdog) gave Charlie his life savings of 50 cents and told Charlie to run to the closest shop to buy himself another candy bar. You’ll never guess what happens next!

We would reccomend this book to people who like fantasy and fiction.

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

James and the giant peach is a perfect book for people who like adventure.  If you like traveling in strange ways you’ll love this book.  The main character is a little boy  named James Henry Trotter.  The book is called James and the Giant Peach because James meets an old man that gave him magic crystals.  James dropped them near a peach tree and you can probably guess what happened next.  They face many trials like weird cloud men that throw a bunch of stones.
You’ll love this book!

Hachico Waits By Lesea Newman
Hello my name is Josephine and this book is by Lesea newman and it is called Hachico Waits. This book is about a dog that goes with his master to the train station every day and when his master leaves Hachico goes away somewhere and when he comes his masters train comes. But one day his master does not come what will Hachico do? I recommend this book to people who like marriage, animals and don’t mind the sadness of dieing. Hope you enjoy it!

Something Wickedly Weird
Dear Lauren,
The book, “Something Wickedly Weird”, is really really good. I think that it would be good for everyone that likes pirates, wolves, talking fish, mysteries, trickery and more. I would say that in the end, the book does get kind of spooky, but this book is a book that would leave the reader wanting more,
because I just finished the book and I’m wanting more.
